How To Make a Guest Account

To make a guest account on Windows 10. We’ll first create a local user account then remove the account from the local users’ group and add it to the guests’ user group.

This sounds difficult, but it’s quite easy. Here’s how.

  1. Click the start menu button.
  2. Then, Search “Command Prompt“, and then right-click the Command Prompt and run as administrator.
  3. In the command prompt, type the following command to create a new local user account.
Command: net user Newuser /add /active:yes

Be sure, here we’re using “Newuser” as a user name, you can replace this with whatever name you want to use for your guest user.

  1. Once the new user account created, you can set the password for.
  2. Type the following command to set the password.
Command: net user Newuser *

Enter your password twice respectively, and then finish.

If you don’t need to set the password, then you can leave the password blank, to skip this use the enter button.

  1. Now, type the following command to remove the user from the local user group.
Command: net localgroup users Newuser /delete
  1. Now, add this user to the Guests user group to use as a guest account.
Command: net localgroup guests Newuser /add
  1. Type Exit and hit enter to exit the command prompt, Once it is finished.

When you create a new user account, then you’re only creating a standard local user account, not a Guest user account. But, you can remove the user from the local users group and add it to the Guest users group.

This is similar to as we create a Guest user account with the limited permissions. But, Windows 10 doesn’t provide any option to make a guest account, that’s why we need to follow this method.
