How to Change the Default System Font on Windows 11

The default system font on Windows 11 is the Segoe UI variable. If you wish to change the default system font on Windows 11, you can do this.

Segoe UI Variable is a new system font on Windows 11; It is a new version of the classic Segoe and uses variable font technology. It is designed to provide excellent legibility and improve the outlines at different sizes of display. In addition, the new Segoe UI variable scales better with monitors having more pixels per inch; this provides better legibility and readability in UI.

Windows 11 doesn’t include any personalization settings to change the system font. In this guide, we will show you how to change the system font on Windows 11.

Change Default System Font on Windows 11

Before changing the system font, you need to decide which Font you want to use instead of Segoe UI. You can find the list of the available Fonts in the Settings app and note the name of the Font you want to set as a system font.

Open the Settings app using the “Windows + I” shortcut key, then head over to Personalization > Fonts. Now you can find the available fonts here. If you want to add any of your favorite fonts, do simple Drap and drop to install.

Choose the Font you want to use as the default system Font and note down the name of that Font. Once you have chosen the Font, follow the below steps to set this font as the system’s default font.

  1. Open the Notepad.
  2. Copy the following lines on the Notepad.

How to Change the Default System Font on Windows 11
  1. Press the Ctrl + S to save the file.
  2. Navigate to Desktop.
  3. Enter the desired name followed by “.reg” extension. For example Font.reg.
  4. Next, select the Save as type – “All Files”.

  1. Click the OK button to save the File on the Desktop.
  2. Right-click the newely created “.reg” file and select merge to change the values in the Registry.
  3. Click the Yes when you encounter a warning prompt.
  4. Lastly don’t forget to Restart the computer.

Once you complete the above steps, you can enjoy the new system font on your computer.

Restore Default System Font on Windows 11

In case you want to go back to the default Segoe UI variable system font, you can always do this. Follow the below steps to restore the default system font.

  1. Open the Notepad.
  2. Copy the following line on the Notepad.

  1. Press the Ctrl + S to save the file.
  2. Navigate to Desktop.
  3. Enter the file name followed by “.reg” extension.
  4. Select the Save as type – All Files.
  5. Click the OK to save the File on the Desktop.
  6. Right-click the newely created “.reg” file and select the merge option.
  7. Click the Yes button when you encounter the warning prompt.
  8. Restart your computer to make changes.

Once you complete the above steps, the Windows 11 default font should roll back to the previous configuration.
