How to create Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive

Using Bootable USB Drive, you’ll be able to clean install Windows 11 on your computer, even if your computer doesn’t comply with minimum system requirements for installing a new Windows 11. In this guide, we will show you how to create Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive.

Recommendation: If you’re going to install Windows 11 on an unsupported hardware PC, you may first need to bypass some hardware checks using Registry Editor so that you do not get an error while installing Windows 11.

To perform a clean installation of Windows 11, the Bootable Installation Media Drive is required. You can create a bootable USB drive using third-party tool Rufus or Command Prompt. However, you can also use the Media creation tool to create an installation media drive.

1. Use Media Creation Tool to create Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive

This is an official utility by Microsoft to create a Windows 11 Bootable USB Installation Media Drive to perform a reinstall or clean install of Windows 11 on a new or old PC.

Follow the below steps to create Windows 11 USB drive using the Media Creation Tool.

  1. First of all, download Media Creation Tool.
  2. Run the Media Creation Tool, once it is downloaded.
  3. Click the Accept button to accept terms.
  4. On the next page, select the Langauge and Edition.

  2. On the “Choose which media to use” page, select the USB flash drive.

  2. Then, select the USB flash drive.
  3. Click the Next.
  4. You should see “Downloading Windows 11” page.

Once you complete the steps, you can boot your computer with Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive to install the new operating system.

2. Use Rufus to create a Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive

You can use the Rufus to create a bootable USB flash drive, follow the steps to do this.

  1. Go to the Rufus website.
  2. Under the Download section, download the latest version of the Rufus.
  3. Run the Rufus on your computer.
  4. Connect the USB flash drive to your computer.
  5. Under the Device section, select the USB flash drive to creation Installation Media.
  6. Next, under the Boot section, seect the Disk or ISO image.
  7. Click the drop-arrow button (next to the Boot section), and select Download option.
  8. Click the Download Button.
  9. Select the Windows 11.
  10. Click the Continue.
  11. Under the Release, select the latest build.
  12. Click the Continue again.
  13. Select the Windows 11 Home/Pro Edition.
  14. Then, click the Continue.
  15. Select the Langauge, then click the Continue button.
  16. Next, select the Architecture.
  17. Click the Download button.

  1. Select the lcoation where you want to save the Windows 11 ISO.
  2. Once Downloading is finished, click the START button.

Once you finish the above steps, the Windows 11 Bootable Installation USB will be ready to use. Now you can perform an in-place upgrade or clean install of Windows 11 on an old or new PC.

3. Use Command Prompt to create Windows 11 Bootable USB

You already have two convenient ways to create Windows 11 Bootable USB, but if you want to do the same using Command Prompt, you can do so.

  1. Go the Windows 11 Download Page.
  2. Under the Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO), select the Windows 11.
  3. Click the Download button.

  1. Select the Product langauge, then click the Confirm.

  1. Then, click the Download button to download Windows 11 ISO.

  1. Open the Command Prompt.
  2. In the Command Prompt, type the following command, then hit the Enter button.
diskpart
  1. This open Diskpart command-line utility.
  2. Run the following command to list all the mounted disks on the computer.
list disk
  1. Run the following command to select the USB flash drive.
select disk 2

In my case, Disk number 2 is the number of the connected USB drive. In your case, it might be a different number.

  1. Type the following command to earse the data from the USB drive.
clean

  1. Type the following command to create the parimiary partition.
create partition primary
  1. Because there is only one partition on the USB drive, type the following command to select the partition.
select partition 1
  1. Type the following command to format the drive with FAT32 file system.
format fs=fat32 quick

  1. Type Exit to exit the Diskpart.

  1. Right-click the Downloaded Windows 11 ISO Disk Image and select Mount.
  2. Open the Windows 11 mounted drive.
  3. Press the Ctrl + A to select all the files.
  4. Press the Ctrl + C to copy all the files.
  5. Open the USB Drive, then paste everthing here using Ctrl + P.

Once you complete the steps, your Windows 11 Bootable USB Drive gets ready to be used to perform a clean install of Windows 11.
